Basketball camps are one of the main avenues of ministry for Crossover. The standard format for Crossover camps (US and overseas) includes basketball instruction from Crossover staff, tour members, and volunteers, most of which have had college as well as professional basketball experiences. The youth that participate in these camps can benefit from these experiences. More importantly, the participating youth will engage in; devotion time, Bible studies, praise and worship music, relationship building and testimony sharing with the camp coaches and staff throughout the duration of the camp. On the last day, all the campers take part in our “Crossover Competition”. This competition requires the participating campers to show off their “crossover” moves and other ball handling skills combined with original creativity and charisma. This is one of the aspects that makes Crossover camps so unique and special. When the competition is over, a winner is crowned as champion and has their picture posted on our website for an entire year!
In conclusion of the camp, the staff has one last devotion time with the campers. This final devotion is focused on explaining to the campers that the crossover moves they just preformed in the crossover competition is only temporary, but there’s a crossover move they can make that’s eternal. We then introduce Crossover’s theme verse, John 5:24 which explains how this “eternal crossover” move works. The passage reads (in NIV);
“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over form death to life.”
This is where we get the term “eternal crossover” – crossing over from death to life through what Christ did for us is a move that lasts forever. The campers are invited to through prayer to make a decision to make the “eternal crossover”, repent of their sins, and make Jesus Christ the Lord and Savior of their lives. The decisions that have been made are then followed up by on-going discipleship from Crossover staff, camp directors and referred churches.
